MUSIC, DANCING & MOONLIGHT PRANCING!
This is really two clubs in one. Roaring 40s is for dancers while Amigos is for people who prefer dining out and/or bushwalking.
ROARING 40s
Roaring 40s has been formed as a launch pad for a different style of dance and social group. Other clubs seem to concentrate on chart hits and standards from the 1970s to the present whereas we plan to wind back the clock a bit. Like, back to the 1940s and 1950s. The volume will be quieter and the pace more relaxed.
HOUSE PARTIES
Most Saturday nights we hold getting-to-know-you parties at various venues around about – often at my own home in Petersham. These parties are very friendly with a speak-easy sort of ambience. Come dressed as Al Capone or Billie Holiday and you're sure to be a hit!
ROCK 'n' RELAX
Once a month we hold a dance at a medium sized licenced club. We don't claim to be the biggest, the loudest or the wildest club in Sydney – that's not what we're about – however, we may well be the friendliest.
Our DJ is known as 'Bodgie', aptly named because he is not what you might call a "precision DJ" – i.e. obsessed with beats per minute and the technical side of the business. Instead he is a friendly, zany guy who invites people onto the stage to dance and who makes every mistake in the book but people love him because of his music, it is sheer artistry in rhythm.
'Bodgie' plays big-band jazz, some Ella and Frankie, 1950s & 1960s Rock 'n' Roll, Latin American and even some Carribean sounds. It's a rare mix, no one else in Sydney plays such a wonderful range of exciting yet romantic music.
BEGGARS BANQUETS!
Friendlier than a wrestling match, more fun than a house party and more effective than a dine-out club, BEGGARS BANQUETS are an exciting way of meeting new people and forming worthwhile relationships. For more information about BEGGARS BANQUETS click the 'Links' button.
BUSHWALKS & SIGHTSEEING
Most Sundays, depending on the weather, we meet somewhere for either a stroll or a struggle. Like, some days we'll wander or crawl around Balmain, or we might hike to the Jenolin Caves and back again before lunch. (Well, we could try, couldn't we?) Visits to the Royal National Park, picnics on the rocks at Northbridge, exploring the battlements at Middle Head before they get blown up by the free-enterprise fascists, and so on. Tell us where you'd like to visit and we'll include it on the itinary.
AMIGOS MEANS FRIENDS!
What we're trying to do with AMIGOS is create a friendly environment for intelligent and good natured people who wish to meet others for friendship and social activities. If you like the idea, let other people know about AMIGOS. In fact invite friends along. The sooner we build up the numbers the more activities we'll organise and the more fun we'll all have.
EMAIL LIST
Finally, before you go, may I suggest you get on the AMIGOS email list. That way there's two-way communication and you will miss nothing, you will be an informed little Vegemite. Drop us a line at amigos2001@lycos.com or just click the 'Contact' button.
P.S. if you're with hotmail remember to include us on your 'safe list' otherwise our memos to you will end up lonely and dejected in your junk mail.
Ciao f' now, Doug
